Ally Jane Jewelry Materials
Have you ever wondered why some jewelry turns your skin green, loses it shine or gold coloring right away ? There is a lot of confusion about the different kinds of gold jewelry available today, whether it be gold plated, gold filled, etc. Gold plated jewelry contains just a thin layer of gold and usually loses it color and shine after a short time. Ally Jane uses high quality materials that will last for years if not decades to come. Most all of our chains, findings and pendants are gold filled or sterling silver.
Gold Filled
Gold Filled is the best alternative to fine gold. it is a hybrid metal that is essentially a thick layer of gold "filled" with another metal, like brass or copper. It has a layer of gold that is 5-100x thicker than other more commonly used metals, like gold plated and vermeil. Additionally, the "filling" process created a much stronger bond between the gold and base metal, so the gold layer is very durable and will not come off for decades.
The gold thickness for gold filled jewelry makes it hypoallergenic for most people. If you can wear 14K gold on your skin without an allergic reaction, you should have no problem wearing 14K gold filled.
Gold filled can tarnish over time, but it can easily be cleaned. The tarnish is just a build up of corrosion that happens to metals when they are exposed to air and moisture over time. Simply use a soft jewelry cleaning cloth or soap and warm water to clean your jewelry. We sell jewelry cleaning clothes that are perfect to use for gold filled jewelry.
Gold Vermeil
Gold Vermeil is genuine 92.5 sterling silver that has been expertly plated with a thick layer of 14k-24k fold. Ally Jane jewelry does offer a few pendants that are a high quality 14k gold vermeil.
Sterling Silver
Pure silver is soft and and malleable, so the alloy sterling silver was created to be a bit more durable. Sterling silver consists of 92.5 percent pure silver and 7.5 percent copper and is the standard metal used to make fine silver jewelry.
Most of Ally Jane Jewelry's silver colored chains , findings and pendants are sterling silver other than a few exceptions where they are either rhodium or silver plated chain for a few heavier chains to keep the price down.
